Secure Your Place At The Single Origin Acid Test & The Varietal Cupping.
We’re hitching our wagon and heading south for this year’s Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE). We’ll be holding workshops on Acid Tastings as well as Varietal Cuppings. We’ll have two special international guests at our stand. Why, we’ll even have the official launch at our stand of ‘The Juggler’; the new benchmark in café milk dispensing systems from Six Simple Machines – more on that coming soon.
It’s all set to happen May 23rd-26th, and it’s going to be big. Hope you can read on. Even better, hope you can join us…
Our Acid Test workshops will take place at MICE stand #73 daily at 11 am and 2pm. Entry is free though bookings essential at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Acid Test will help reveal why some coffees shine and sparkle sweetly while others feel flat and underwhelming. Often misunderstood, acidity is fundamental to great coffee experience. At the workshop, guests will learn to distinguish citric, malic, acetic, tartaric, phosphoric and quinic acid in coffee and identify the effect that these acids properties have on the cup.
Joining us from the USA to lead our Acid Test workshops is special guest Mr Andrew Hetzel. Andrew is a coffee educator and advisor across Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East; most recently heading quality improvement initiatives for coffee growers in India, East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Andrew is also an instructor for the Specialty Coffee Association of America, as well as a certified Q Grader, R (Fine Robusta) Grader and Q/R program instructor for the Coffee Quality Institute. Andrew ran this workshop for us in 2012 and we look forward to his return and to do it all over again.
Our green bean hunter, Wendy De Jong, will also be holding another series of workshops at our MICE stand focused on the effect of varietal on the cup.
Our Varietal Cuppings will take place at MICE stand #73 daily at 12.30pm and 3.30pm. Entry is free though bookings essential at email@example.com
The Varietal Cupping will detail how Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, Catuai, Pacamara…(the list goes on), are all different botanical types (cultivars) of the coffee plant, each has its own character and personality. Understanding variety goes a long way to understanding coffee.
Join us as we taste some of the famous varieties of coffee as well as some elusive and obscure varieties as well. You’ll be in good hands as Wendy is a 20+ year coffee veteran, and one of the most experienced coffee tasters in the business, is a licensed Q Grader, on the Advisory Board of the Coffee Quality Institute, served 6 years on the SCAA Roasters Guild Executive Council, and as Chairperson of the council, she is a certified instructor with the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and has served on many International cupping juries with the Cup of Excellence program, as well as Best of Panama, India Fine Coffee Association, Brazil Fair Trade Cup, Indonesia Specialty Coffee Association, and has served as Head Judge for the Africa Fine Coffee Association in Ethiopia and Uganda… and a lot of fun to be around.
Spaces are open to all coffee luvin’ folk who’ll be at MICE, so secure yours at the cupping table by emailing us your preferred workshop, day and time, to firstname.lastname@example.org
