Hey, let’s get our cupping lab certified by the SCAA! We’ll be able to offer education programs… it’ll take our own evaluation work to the next level… we’ve pretty much done the hard yards already… how hard can it be?
And so, like many the enthusiastic DIYer before us we descended a renovation rabbit hole & climbed a learning curve of lux meters, water filtration systems, glass pipettes, red light bulbs (the list of requirements just like the trips to Bunnings went on & on).
But now after a handshake and a smile from the lovely SCAA inspector, Ensei Neto, who travelled all the way from Brazil, we’ve become just the third certified cupping lab in the country.
What this means is that we can now host courses & classes from the internationally recognized SCAA & CQI programs. If knowledge is power, then shared knowledge is being part of team of super powered hero friends. Which is why we now call upon specialty coffee professionals, buyers, producers, roasters, QCs & baristas to come together & join as one in the pursuit of learning.
We’re pleased to announce that Andrew Hetzel, Q/R Grader Instructor for CQI since 2001, will be leading our lab’s first Q Grader course, taking place from 15th-20th October. Andrew has worked on behalf of coffee producers and roasters in over 35 countries to improve coffee quality.
Spaces for these courses which run over six full days, are filling quite quickly so delay not super coffee friends, this is a chance to take your powers to the next level.
