Despite Scomo claiming that café’s aren’t going to contribute to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, we’re just not ones to sit around and wait for politicians to take action on climate change.

Quite the contrary. Maybe it’s got something to do with our caffeine levels, but we’ve been working double-time on our carbon footprint. We’ve just achieved Carbon Neutrality. And since January this year, have been 1% For The Planet members. You see, Scomo, even though we’re a tiny speck of a business on this earth, we’ve all got to do our bit and make this climate change thing as top of mind as coffee is each morning.

FIXING CLIMATE F*CKERY & ANNOUNCING 1% FOR THE PLANET

We’re roasters not mathematicians but know bad stats when we see them. Like the finding from IUCN Red List of Threatened Species that, due to climate change, at least 60% of coffee species are at risk of disappearing. And, from the 2016 report by The Climate Institute, that coffee production could be cut in half by 2050. Then there’s this - only 3% of philanthropy goes to environmental causes. Of that, only 5% comes from corporations.

Surprise from Sumatra

Indonesia’s humidity is in part responsible for the tendency to adopt the ‘wet hulled’ process that you are probably familiar with. It’s the process by which coffee is pulped and then dried down to 35% moisture, before hulling takes place when soft and dry. But rest assured that this is not all the region has to offer.
