When you’ve got a ball of fire in the sky putting out 5800 degrees celcius worth of energy, it should be put to work, right!? We’re stoked to tell you we have done just that with our exciting new photovoltaic development at the roastworks in Botany
Behold, 94 solar panels lined up on our roof, making hay…or in our case, coffee, while the sun shines.
These panels are currently generating enough power to offset our total roastworks electricity usage between 7am and 2pm, which is when 90% of our operation is swinging.
On the production floor, they are turning the drums of the roasters including old Boris, driving the forklift and lending a hand to the packing. In the training room, they are powering the Dittings, Mahlkonig and Mazzers, plus putting the amps into the Spirit, La Marzocco, Synesso and The Juggler milk on tap system. In the cupping Lab, they are heating the hot water towers, powering the special cupping table light grids and even lighting up the almighty Geochron.
Plus they’re lighting up our home made coffee siphon lights.
So now along with taking roaster drum, exhaust and afterburner readings on our roaster’s digital display, through to doing our Agtron readings, TDS readings, green bean moisture meter readings and so forth, we are also now able to measure our watts generated on our new solar displays.
Fascinating and fulfilling stuff!
Along with the science and love that goes into our beans, we hope this new solar energy helps to make your favourite Single O brew taste even sweeter.
