HEY YOU! Yeah, you (*winks*)… Welcome to our snazzy remodelled Surry Hills cafe.
Sittin’ pretty, ain’t it? Thanks for being patient with us while we tinkered behind the curtains over the last few months.
Anyways, heard you wanna know a bit more about the latest invention at our coffee counter? Cool, yep, sure thing.

The world’s first batch-brew on tap prototype. Not bad lookin’, eh?
Those 4 taps there serve specialty single origin batch brew in the time it takes to watch an insta story. That’s less than 15 secs flat for your morning fix. Next to nix, really.
Seems a bit familiar? You’re not wrong. It was inspired by a few too many craft beers at our local. Only with this “bar”, the taps face out. To you. So you can serve yourself. And, tap to pay at this card machine too. It’s easy as.
But, real talk, it’s what’s IN the tap that’s got us frothing (not literally though cause we’re skipping the milk here). Flowing from these 4 tappies is the best of the batch. Black coffee – batch brewed. It’s bloody delicious.
You see, we’re big believers in black coffee. Been bangin’ on about it from ‘03. And since then, black coffee drinking has gone from around 3% to 23% here at Single O. This means there’s plenty yet to convert, but also that there’s something in what we’re saying. And what we’re serving.
As you know, when you drink single origin black coffee, you get to really taste the nuances of coffee that vary due to region, variety and process. It’s why we love it, right. Most peeps know how different a Chardy is from a Riesling. A natchie from a normy. It’s just about letting them know the same can be said about a Kenya & Costa Rica, unwashed & washed, when it comes to coffee.
Sure this batch brew tap system is about speedy service. But also, and this is key folks, choice. Sideshow is now home to four Single O faves on tap at any time, so you’re spoilt for it. Plus, you can get to know what all this origin business means by tasting it for yourself. The proof is in the sipping.

We’ve plonked the new batch-baby here, right up front of stage, next to the good ol’ espresso machine. Idea was to literally put black coffee and espresso on equal footing. We’re basically backing batch, big time.
Sensing a theme here? We definitely want more folks to give black coffee a go and batch is our chosen gateway! If you’re a batchie-newbie… take a flight! Like a whiskey flight, only with batch brew. You could be whisked from the tropics of COE Nicaragua #5 to the tamarind vibes of Giathugu Kenya.
Oh, and on the self-serve, self-pay vibe. Don’t sweat it, the robots aren’t coming for our barista’s jobs. Our batch brew on tap system is still set-up by one of our coffee-obsessed humans. They’ll tweak and tinker until they’ve reached brew-nirvana with each batch, well before you’ve even arrived of a morning.
The batch system also frees up that very same human so they can take more than a moment to chat to you about flavour, selection, origin, Game Of Thrones – you name it.
