Using Your Blind Filter

Keeping your kit clean is essential for making tasty espressos. That funny little ‘blind’ basket with no holes enables you to clean all the gunk out of your shower screens during service, keeping your coffee running nice and sweeeeet. Use that guy incessantly. Use it before you make coffee. Use it when there’s a break in the rush. Use it when you’re trying to impress that special customer. Cleaner is better!

 

How often do you have a shower? Every day! How often should you use your coffee cleaner? Every day! This chemical should be used at the end of… every day… to keep everything running nice and clean for the long run. It’s important for breaking down all the oils up there that will block pipes and generally gunk things up. Remember though, don’t leave your group running while your blind is in!! This will stress the pump, reducing its life. To get that group all sparkly, you just wet the coffee cleaner in the blind with the group water, then lock the head in, switch the group off and let it sit for 3 or 4 minutes. While this is happening you can drink your beer and clean the rest of your area. After the 3 or 4 minutes you want to flush the chemical cleaner through the group, running the pump for 5 seconds then off for 30. Do this 5 or 6 times before dumping the chemical into the drip tray and rinsing the group another 5 or 6 times until the water is crystal clear. Finish ya beer then run some of that group water into a latte glass. If it looks like water, smells like water and tastes like water you’ve nailed it! If not, rinse a couple more times until all the chemical is out of the system.
