going big in kanda awaji

The Mothership is landing on 24 April. After 10 years of roasting in Tokyo for one of the best cafe communities around and being part of what's become one of the most thriving specialty coffee scenes anywhere in the world, we’re opening our Mothership café in the heart of Kanda Awajicho, a stone’s throw from the famed electronics district, Akihabara.

Nestled between history and high-tech, this is our biggest and boldest Japan opening yet. Our first Tokyo flagship with a full day-to-night menu, space-age decor, and a whole lotta coffee. Best be known we’re going big.

Coffee by Day…

In the morning, it’s all about fresh brews and signature brekkys with a creative twist.

With six (!!!) free-pour batch taps with rotating big name single origins from our producer partners from around the world, the star of the opening line-up includes a double-fermented Colombia Gesha by Wilder Lazo in Acavedo, Huila with vibrant citric floral notes. For those looking for a comforting classic, our trusty Linea PB from our friends at La Marzocco and good ol’ Reservoir blend have your flat white needs covered.

As for food to fuel your orbit, we’ve got you covered. Featuring our Yuzu Benny, a Japanese twist on the classic eggs benny, alongside Aussie faves, like The Avo Show, The Mothership Bowl, and of course, banana bread with espresso butter.

…Cocktails by Night

We’re going big on hours and keeping it flowin into the night with cocktails and bar snacks. By night, Kanda switches gears. The lights go low, the tunes come up, and the bar is brought to life.

Enter seasonal Australian wines, indie craft beers, and cocktails made with an upcycled spin – including our Let Me Clarify Colada, our coffee clarified pina colada made with spent grounds. No bean left behind.

There’s also a selection of bar snacks to keep your nibbles at bay while you sit back, relax, and enjoy your evening.

Space-Age Meets Sustainability

Designed by the legends at Luchetti Krelle and built by Bonobo, Kanda channels Akihabara’s electronic district with sleek, sci-fi curves and minimalist art by local illustrator and Single O Ryogoku Roastworks regular, Nori Okawa. It’s futuristic without feeling far away from home.

While we were inspired by space, we’re also big on sustainability. We’re talking Sludgies cups by Malcolm Greenwood, reusable Circle Cups for takeaway, recycled plastic counters by Defy Design, reused tables and upcycled chairs by Flange Plywood.
