NSW cafe scene you beauty, you've Given A Puck in true waste eliminating style!

In October 2025 our Giving a Puck mission was clear - set out to change the way Sydney cafes and baristas consider and dispose of their spent coffee pucks. 

Teaming up with Reground, a Melbourne based coffee grounds recycling crew, we brought Giving a Puck and Reground to the Sydney cafe scene. The goal, curb your morning latte or long black's climate-warming bomb when it hits landfill and releases methane, a gas that’s 30x more harmful than Co2. 

This month, we celebrate a major milestones in our Giving A Puck fight. Over 100 local Sydney cafes and restaurants have now signed up for Reground to collect their spent coffee grounds for delivery to local community and home gardeners. Here coffee grounds get put to work to replenish gardening soil by boosting nutrients, plant resilience, and reducing the carbon impact on our environment.

This effort has seen your local coffee spot divert 1 MILLION coffee pucks from landfill in NSW alone! 

A huge shout out to Reground and all our cafe and restaurant Partners for mucking in and signing up. 

But we're not ready to stop here - we're still chatting to the NSW hospo industry and encouraging more Partners to jump aboard to scale this initiative and make an even bigger impact. 

Thanks to Reground, local cafes can now trace their coffee from it's source, right through to disposal - and that's something we're proud to be Giving A Puck about!
