awooooo! random acts of art goes wolf
We’re excited to kick off Round 2 of the Random Acts of Art project with artist Adrian Repeti. The project, which sees our 1kg bags and other ‘random’ objects in our world get art on them, started late last year with Brett Chan as the first artist (read the story here). The idea being, here at Single O we put a lot of time, skill, thought and care into our coffee that goes inside our bags, why not showcase artists that do just the same with their craft, on the outside of our bags.
Adrian is a local Sydney artist whose work combines street art and whimsical imagery. He developed ‘The Eye of the Beholder’ illustration for our 1kgs bags, to howls of approval all round.
We thought to ourselves, this art could feature someplace else too.…A t-shirt you say? Exactly! So introducing the Single O ‘The Eye of the Beholder’ limited edition t-shirt. Printed in vintage white on an AS colour grey marle tee, with a little ‘single o’ on the orange pip label, you can get from our little stash at our online shop here.
We asked Adrian a couple of question so you can all get to know him a bit better.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHEN YOU STARTED DRAWING?
I’m a Sydney based graphic/illustration artist. It pretty much all started form a young age drawing my future car that I wanted to have and all grew from there. My work is based on an exploration of many ideals (concept) with popular culture and are provocative both in colour and subject. The work employs the use of whimsical imagery, coupled with vivid depictions of bold graffiti language that juxtaposes overlaying pastel colours.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS WOLF ILLUSTRATION?
It’s called “The Eye Of The Beholder”. Being an eye of the beholder is one that is charge of there own path, like a wolf. A pathfinder by nature led by their instincts to find their way to survive. The howling hand is a connection/the spirit of a wolf with in us.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEDIUM TO DRAW WITH? DO YOU LIKE A MORE NATURAL PROCESS WITH PEN TO PAPER OR STRAIGHT TO THE COMPUTER?
Back to basics. Pen and paper as you said the natural way. The computer is just a tool I use later on in my process if need to be.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Anything and everything. What I see every day, to what I hear.
IF YOUR WEREN’T AN ARTIST/DESIGNER WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I guess a carpenter.
IF YOU WERE TO BE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND AND COULD TAKE 3 ITEMS WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
Chocolate, ham, pen and paper. Sorry that’s 4.
NOW THE BIG QUESTION – DO YOU DRINK COFFEE AND IF SO HOW DO YOU TAKE IT?
I am a long black type of guy.
