BUILT DIFFERENT! ALL-NEW PARACHUTES DRIP BAG, WITH MIND BLOWING QUALITY. IT'S V60-ESQUE.
We’ve spent the last few months in a filter paper vortex. Measuring flow rates, chasing TDS numbers, micro-tweaking microns and obsessing over extraction.
Hello, new Parachutes drip bag.
These things are drawing down in around 1–1.5 minutes, over three times faster than the old ones. And the extraction is insanely efficient. We’re seeing 1–1.2% TDS. Better extraction in half the time.
Yep, you read that right. If you’re scratching your head, us too. Speed and brew strength aren’t supposed to turn up together. But they have. So we went digging.
Turns out the answer is in the filter material and the geometry of the bag. Water moves through the bed faster and more evenly, with less channelling and more contact with the coffee. The cup quality we’re getting is impossibly good.
It really is V60-esque.
Oh, and the drip bag is still commercially compostable.
PARACHUES FAQ
We're aware these new Chute bags are so impossibly good, defying all coffee logic and laws of physics (ok maybe not) - that it may leave you with some questions. So we've answered a few for you below.
THINGS YOU MIGHT NOTICE
Why did my Parachute finish brewing so quickly? Did I do something wrong?
Nope. It's meant to do that. Expect a brew time of around 1–1.5 minutes. Faster doesn't mean weaker. In fact, we're seeing stronger extraction and better flavour in the cup. Check out the full Parachutes Brew Guide here.
It opens differently.
Pull the two tabs marked OPEN apart.
No tearing needed.
It tastes stronger.
The new bag helps water move through the coffee bed more evenly, giving better extraction and more flavour.
OPENING
How do I open the outer sleeve without tearing the chute?
Good question. Before opening, give the pack a little shake to make sure the chute is sitting at the bottom. Then tear across the top of the outer sleeve.
BREWING
How much water should I use?
Around 180mL for the standard brew guide.
Should I stir it?
No need. The bag is designed to do the work. Pour, drain, pour again.
What cup works best?
A tall-ish mug or vessel. Avoid wide cups where the bag arms have to stretch or you'll find it falling into your mug when you add water.
The bag drained before I finished pouring. Is that normal?
Yep. Just wait until its fully drained and then pour one more time.
Can I add milk?
Absolutely. Chute Blend especially loves a dash of milk. Most of the Origins are better suited to black coffee.
FRESHNESS
Where are Parachutes made?
Roasted and packed at our Roastworks in Botany, NSW.
What's the shelf life?
Three months from roast date.
How do they stay fresh?
We nitrogen flush each sachet.
Basically, we push oxygen out and replace it with nitrogen, which slows staling and helps keep the coffee fresher until you rip it open.
Do I need to store them differently?
Nope. Keep them sealed, cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.
COMPOSTABILITY
Can I home compost it?
No. Parachutes are certified industrially compostable, not home compostable.
Can I put it in FOGO?
Check with your local council on if you can chuck Chutes in your home Food Organics and Garden Organics bin. Some accept certified compostable packaging, some don't.
What if my council doesn't accept it?
Put the chute, coffee grounds and all, in your general waste bin. Not the recycling bin.
Why does industrial compostable still matter?
Because it avoids conventional nylon and plastic filter bags and uses certified compostable materials designed for a lower-impact end of life where the right infrastructure exists.
Is it perfect? No. Is it better than a standard nylon or plastic drip bag? We reckon so.
