We fill our Parachute drip bags with what convenience brands wouldn’t - really high-grade coffees. In fact, Chutes get the same lovin’ as our café stash; Specialty sourcing, tonnes of tasting, tweaking, and expert roasting. With Parachutes, we also go to town on nailing the right grind, and nitro-flushing to the highest standard. So your Chutes are brew-ready with peak flavour, and will stay that way for three months.

SURPRISINGLY EASY

Rip, drip and sip. No brew gear needed.

Parachutes are made to brew on the fly. Hang the pre-filled bag over your cup, pour hot water, and cut to the chase of specialty coffee. Awesome brews now happen on road trips, picnics, in beach shacks and bush cabins. On film sets and building sites. In the office for fast but furiously good coffee. And at home, for lazy Sunday mornings and silent brewing (hello earlybirds, flatmates and newborn parents). Plus Chutes are a pantry essential we say, because you never know when Adventure might drop in.

No siree, we weren’t setting foot into the single serve category without a waste solution. It took the better part of two years to create the first fully compostable drip coffee bag, for disposal in your home compost or FOGO collection. The thing we love most about this compostable coup is that it gets the coffee grounds along with the filter bag into compost, the place where they should be. We’ve also offset the emissions generated by the production and delivery of Parachutes, so you can rest assured they’re carbon neutral. The planet priorities don’t stop there; Via our 1% for the Planet membership, your chute purchase gives back to some incredible enviro organisation partners.

PARACHUTES FAQS

WHY DID SINGLE O GET INTO DRIP COFFEE BAGS?

We stumbled across ‘Hanging Ear Coffee Bag’ in a Tokyo hotel room. Sweet format, filled with crap coffee. Light bulb moment; Replace with awesome specialty coffee. Once we knew we could also make compostable coffee bags, we brought in a special filling machine (that we named Phyllis) and set to work creating the best possible product we could.

SO THEY ORIGINATED IN JAPAN?

Yep, the drip coffee bag was invented in Japan in the 90’s… better than their contribution to fashion around the same time. And that bag has turned into more than 2 billion bags every year. Not surprising given how convenient they are and they’re arguably the best coffee for travelling.

WHAT DOES DRIP COFFEE TASTE LIKE COMPARED TO OTHER COFFEE METHODS?

Drip coffee tastes bloody brilliant. Expect the cup clarity and body of a filter coffee to come through our single-origin coffee bags, with all the unique profiles and nuances of single origins to come shining through. We recommend that you enjoy Parachutes black, except for our Chute Blend which we’ve created to knock your socks off with a splash of milk.

WHAT’S THIS TALK ABOUT WATER TEMPERATURE?

Look, it matters, and there’s not much else you need to get right. We’ve designed our brew guides using a standard kettle with water just off the boil. If you are a (temperature) control-freak, 96-99 degree Celsius will produce a delicious brew.

WHAT’S THE BEST CUP TO USE? DOES IT MATTER IF THE DRIP BAG SITS IN THE BREW?

Any medium sized cup goes. Nothing too big that tempts you to over pour water. (Around 200ml is the go.) And if the cup is on the smaller side, don’t fret if the Chute sits in your coffee as you brew. We’ve tested this and haven’t found any adverse effects on the cup.

WHY NOT JUST TAKE A THERMOS OF COFFEE FOR AFTER A SURF, HIKE ETC?

Water and coffee grounds sure do mix, but they turn on each other after a while! The compounds in coffee go changing the longer they’re exposed to oxygen – freshly brewed will always taste better. The longer you leave it, the more likely it is to develop that ‘stale’ taste. So, pack your thermos with water just off the boil & brew fresh with Parachutes on your adventure. Be prepared: you’ve never had traveller coffee like this before.

HOW DO I BIN THEM? ARE THEY REALLY COMPOSTABLE?

You bet they are. We’re put in the hard yards to make these compostable coffee bags from top to drop.

Starting with the Outer Box:

Materials: The outer box is made from uncoated, 100% Recycled, FSC Certified Art

Disposal: Both recyclable in the paper stream and compostable.

Moving to the Parachute Sleeve:

Materials: Combination of compostable films derived from sustainably-managed renewable resources.

Disposal:
Home compost or FOGO collection.

Arriving at the Parachute; Filter Bag & Arms:

Materials:
Made from cellulose wood pulp from sustainably managed forests & PLA (polylactic acid) a compostable, plant-based plastic made from renewable, non-genetically modified crops such as corn starch and sugar cane. We are currently undergoing compostablity testing at an external testing laboratory to gain certification.

Disposal: Home compost or FOGO collection.

WHAT ABOUT THE INKS?

The inks on outer packaging are from Soy Bean based ink that are 100% compostable.

ARE THEY CERTIFIED COMPOSTABLE?

Whilst we have not obtained certification of our final packaging (the certification process requires that each piece of packaging must be individually certified, a process which takes some time) the materials used to produce are packaging have been certified to either home or industrial composting standards.

Starting with the Outer Box:

The outer box is made from uncoated, 100% Recycled, FSC Certified Art Paper which makes it both recyclable in the paper stream and compostable. Because it is 100% paper it doesn’t carry any compostable certifications

Moving to the Parachute Sleeve:

The films used to make been individually certified to the European and American commercial compostability standards (EN 13432 and ASTM6400) AND either the European or Australian home compostable standards: OK Compost Home or AS5810.

Arriving at the Parachute; Filter Bag & Arms:

Currently undergoing testing to European and American commercial composability standards (EN 13432 and ASTM6400).

I DON’T HAVE A COMPOST, WHAT DO I DO?

Either buy one from us, or put your Chutes & grounds in the FOGO bin.

Cookie heads up! If we could we’d call ‘em biccies & we’d be dunking ‘em in coffee, but sadly these bad boys are virtual & non-edible.
